Training & Lessons
$1200 Monthly Training Fee
Specializing in colt starting, patterning and seasoning. We have an opening coming summer of 2026 for horses that need hauled. We make sure to provide enough time for each horse to get the attention they deserve.
Note: We will not pattern horses that are not broke properly. We will have to work on foundation before going to the pattern with those that come without a proper foundation for barrel work. We will also not attempt to train through pain. If your horse is found to be in pain, we will try to facilitate all vet appointments, dentist, farrier work etc to help your horse feel his/her best to be able to perform at his/her best! We understand troubleshooting issues and will lead the way in trying to problem solve anytime necessary. If only horses could talk!
Owners are ALWAYS welcome at the Flying E to come visit/ride their horses. Just call ahead so that we don't work your horse before you come that day.
$45 Lesson Fee
We aim for our lessons to run 1 hour, but neither our abilities nor our horse's abilities wear a watch, so they may run 45 minutes or they may run 2 hours. You will only be charged additional if the lesson/instruction runs past the 2 hour mark. We start the day with a goal, sometimes that goal changes. The lesson is over when that goal is achieved, or when improvement/ understanding is achieved.
Lessons will begin spring of 2026. Types of lessons available are: barrel racing, colt starting, foundation and horsemanship.
IMPORTANT
All horses hauled into Flying E must show proof of current coggins & vaccine record or release. No one will be riding horses on premises without a liability waiver on file.
Method Behind The Madness
Above All, Respect.
No hoof, no horse. Right? Well, no respect, no safety. We aim to solve 99% of our horses problems or fears on the ground before we ever complicate that by climbing on board. Here at Flying E, we do not believe in short cuts, our colts are started from the ground up.
Foundation, Foundation, Foundation.
Have you ever heard the phrase “I had to take him/her back to the basics” and thought- “Wait, your horse knows basics?”
With as much pressure as our athletes are under, we have got to have a solid foundation for both the horse and rider to fall back on. When stress gets high, we need to be able to have a flat work day of circles, lead changes, lateral work and rollbacks that will refresh our horses minds, and soften their bodies at the same time. Time to bring back the broke performance horse!
Pressure and Release.
Our method is based greatly on the Down Under Horsemanship Method created by Clinton Anderson. So much so, that our prize horses (Radar) spend at least three months on his ranch getting the best fundamentals in the world during his three year old year. This method is greatly based on the release of pressure- not the application of it. Horses do not learn when you apply pressure to them. They learn when you take it away. That means we teach using the approach and retreat method. We approach them with something (usually a task of some sort) and when they do the correct thing, we retreat, or reward them by leaving them alone. Horses are not dogs! They do not prefer you to gush over them when they do something good. They want you to leave them alone! This method is applied in everyday life. On the ground, feeding, grooming, under saddle- ect.
